INNOVATION:  The "New" Top Professional Soft Skill

With the introduction of artificial intelligence and automation, critical and innovative thinking is now at a premium. In fact, LinkedIn polled a large sampling of companies and the highest soft skill identified, and second skill overall only to computer skills, was creativity/innovation. We will discuss how employees can develop the initial innovation skills and what tools are available to learn specific innovation methodologies and practices.

Presented by:  Michael Duguay, Harold Alfond Institute for Business Innovation

Mike spent over 20 years in economic development at the state, regional and local levels here in the State of Maine where he became an advocate for small business and entrepreneurship.  He would then go on to become the first employee and lead the startup effort of Summit Natural Gas of Maine.

In 2016, he was recruited to join Thomas College to start up the Harold Alfond Institute for Business Innovation which focuses on growing the innovative and entrepreneurial capacity of both the residents and business community within Central Maine.

Mike received his undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire and is currently pursuing his MBA at Thomas College and a micro-masters in Corporate Innovation from the University of Queensland.
